Antique Persian Mohajeran Sarouk Carpet

This outstanding Antique Persian Mohajeran Sarouk is an exceptionally decorative example from the celebrated weaving workshops of the Mohajeran district near Sultanabad. Woven around 1910, it is distinguished by one of the most unusual and artistic designs encountered in Sarouk production, making it particularly desirable to collectors seeking something beyond the classic medallion format. Unlike the more commonly seen Sarouk carpets, this example displays a striking allover floral composition centered on a delicately drawn bouquet rather than a dominant medallion. The field is filled with large stylized palmettes, floral sprays, rosettes, and scrolling arabesques arranged in perfect symmetry across a luminous deep ruby-red field. The spacious composition gives the carpet an elegant, almost palace-like appearance while maintaining the balance and harmony for which Mohajeran Sarouks are renowned. Perhaps the most remarkable feature is its extraordinary border design. Large, elongated paisley (boteh) cartouches, interconnected by decorative strapwork and framed against a deep midnight-blue guard, create a dramatic architectural border rarely found on Mohajeran Sarouks. This distinctive border transforms the carpet into a true statement piece and sets it apart from conventional Sarouk designs. The palette is rich and sophisticated, featuring saturated shades of ruby red, midnight blue, ivory, soft sky blue, rose, and warm camel highlights.
