Notes:
A beautiful and unusual antique Persian Mohajeran Sarouk rug, dating to approximately 1910, featuring an exceptionally decorative floral composition and a remarkable border containing woven Persian inscriptions.
The magnificent midnight-blue field is filled with an elaborate arrangement of flowering branches, stylized palmettes, rosettes, and delicate botanical motifs. The composition is beautifully balanced, with symmetrical flowering vines extending throughout the field.
The colors are particularly attractive, featuring rich midnight blue, warm coral red, soft salmon, muted terracotta, ivory, turquoise blue, and touches of olive green.
The floral drawing is exceptionally graceful, with each flowering branch carefully arranged to create a continuous garden-like composition.
One of the most distinctive features is the series of rectangular cartouches woven into the border.
These cartouches alternate between deep blue and muted olive-green backgrounds, with Persian calligraphy rendered in contrasting salmon and coral tones.
The inscriptions give the rug an additional historical and artistic dimension. Such borders are less commonly encountered than the conventional floral borders of Mohajeran Sarouks.
The close-up photograph also shows the quality of the weaving, with carefully articulated floral motifs and a substantial wool pile.
