Rare Antique Turkish Ghiordes Prayer Rug, Western Anatolia, Circa 1880 This elegant antique Ghiordes prayer rug is a superb example of late 19th-century Western Anatolian weaving. The rug features a spacious ivory and pale sky-blue prayer field enclosed within a distinctive architectural mihrab, creating a striking sense of balance and refinement. Stylized floral devices, fertility motifs, and geometric symbols are rendered with exceptional clarity and charm, reflecting the artistic traditions of the Ghiordes weaving region. Particularly noteworthy is the unusually soft and luminous color palette. Shades of ivory, pale blue, coral red, rose, soft sage green, and muted gold combine to create a sophisticated and highly decorative appearance. The spacious field design and gentle abrash contribute to the rug's graceful, almost ethereal character. The border is beautifully executed with repeating geometric floral motifs and traditional Anatolian elements that frame the composition harmoniously. The fine wool and careful craftsmanship are evident throughout, while the excellent state of preservation is remarkable for a rug of this age. In excellent condition.
