Antique Feraghan Sarouk Rug

A charming and unusually small antique Feraghan Sarouk rug of fine quality, distinguished by its compact almost-square format and exceptionally strong central design. The composition is dominated by a large stepped medallion on a deep midnight-blue ground, densely filled with finely drawn flowering vines, leaves and small blossoms. At its center is a small circular floral rosette surrounded by radiating botanical forms, giving the medallion an almost jewel-like appearance. Warm ivory corner areas beautifully contrast with the dark center, while the surrounding madder-red ground is filled with scrolling floral ornament. A narrow ivory main border containing alternating stylized flowers and angular vine forms completes the design. The coloration is particularly rich, combining deep indigo, madder and burgundy red, warm ivory, soft camel, turquoise and sky blue, green and touches of gold.
