Notes:
A very fine late nineteenth-century Persian Isfahan rug featuring an exceptionally intricate floral composition on a beautiful soft celadon/pistachio-green field. The field is densely ornamented with finely drawn palmettes, rosettes, flowering vines, stylized blossoms and scrolling foliage, creating an almost garden-like effect. The palette is especially appealing, combining the unusual green ground with ivory, deep burgundy, rose, muted red, dark blue, soft gold and subtle earth tones. The broad ivory floral border provides a strong contrast to the green field and is surrounded by several finely worked secondary borders, giving the rug an unusually elaborate architectural framework. The drawing is sophisticated and exceptionally detailed. From your photograph of the reverse, the rug appears very finely woven, consistent with a high-quality workshop production. The fineness allows the floral elements to have considerable definition despite the complexity of the design.
