This magnificent antique Persian Manchester Wool Kashan carpet is an exceptional example of the finest workshop production from the golden age of Kashan weaving. Dating to approximately 1910, it was woven using luxurious imported Manchester-spun Merino wool, prized for its remarkable softness, silky sheen, and exceptional durability. These carpets represent some of the most desirable early 20th-century Persian weavings and are highly regarded by collectors and interior designers alike.
The spacious rose-red field is filled with an elegant allover pattern of scrolling arabesques, stylized palmettes, delicate floral sprays, and graceful boteh motifs, creating a beautifully balanced composition without a dominant central medallion. The rich crimson ground contrasts beautifully with deep midnight-blue, ivory, soft sky-blue, sage green, and warm camel accents, producing an exceptionally refined and harmonious color palette. The intricate drawing and remarkable precision of the design reflect the work of highly skilled master weavers.
Surrounding the field is a magnificent navy floral border composed of scrolling vines, Shah Abbasi blossoms, palmettes, and rosettes framed by multiple finely detailed guard borders. The superb balance between the field and border gives the carpet an impressive architectural presence, making it ideal for grand living rooms, formal dining rooms, galleries, or distinguished interiors.
The use of Manchester wool gives the pile an unmistakable velvety texture and luminous sheen that has become increasingly sought after. Unlike later production, these early Manchester Kashans possess an extraordinary combination of resilience, softness, and brilliance that continues to improve with age. Carpets woven between approximately 1890 and 1930 using imported Manchester wool are especially prized for these qualities.
